Generation of an Instrument Communications error during calibration occurs when the instrument is not physically connected to the correct port, connected to the PC at all or turned off.  First, check and make sure that the instrument is connected to the PC and turned on. Then run the Instrument Specialist utility from the Options Menu. You must first select the type of instrument to detect, then you are prompted to turn the instrument off then back on before continuing. The utility will then search all valid ports on the PC for the instrument.  Once you establish where the instrument is connected, you can either change the physical connection to the PC to com1 (recommended) or change the port setting in the instrument setup that can also be accessed from the Options Menu.
